Alternative fuel infrastructures in Belgium

Using alternative fuels can be quite a challenge if you don't know where to fill up with electricity, natural gas, etc. For every alternative fuels, the European Alternative Fuels Observatory offers a map on this website to look for charging stations.

Of all the alternative fuels, LPG currently has the best existing infrastructure. Along the highways, you can get LPG in almost all gas stations during the weekends. On the inner roads there are also a lot of gas stations that offer LPG, but here you are often bound by the opening hours of the corresponding shop. A list and map of LPG fuelling stations can be found here.

The number of refuelling points for CNG (natural gas) has expanded considerably. Some companies have set up new CNG stations at several locations mainly in Flanders, e.g., DATS24 (Colruyt Group). For a general overview of CNG refuelling points, check the NGVA website.

Most users of electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles charge their vehicles primarily at home or at work. Nevertheless, public charging stations are also useful in some instances, like in the absence of a private garage or while parking in public places. An extensive list of charging stations is available on the website oplaadpalen.nl, where you can see for all continents the number of charging stations in a certain region, specified by type (bicycle, car, etc.), the power and whether or not the charging station is available at the moment.
